Visual BASIC 2010 is aggravating me! Writing for console?

All I want to do is write a very simple program that will iterate a very simple equation and I need the command line to be able to ask me for the initial (floating point) value for one of the variables. Back when I learned BASIC several years ago, this was a very very easy task. I am revisiting it now and VB 2010 is very different from what I learned with, and I cannot figure out what I'm supposed to write in the code in order to accomplish this. Can someone please tell me how to do this?
