Catholic Wedding Questions and Answers?
My fiance' and I are in the early stages of planning our wedding. He is Catholic, I am Southern Baptist. His mother is wanted us to have our wedding in a Catholic church, which is fine with me. Until I found out all of the rules. I have been married before, and as I understand the Catholic rules are that I have to have my first marriage annulled, legially this is not possible, yet in the eyes of the Catholic Church it is? I'm not understanding this. I really want to please my future mother-in-law and I do honor her beliefs, but at the expense of dragging up my past marriage and having my parents, my ex and his parents revisit the hurt and pain that has been put behind us. I just don't see the importance of it all. I need to know how to please my mother-in-law and honor my parents as well. Not to disrespect the Catholic Church, but it doesn't matter to me if they accept my marriage, I am not Catholic, I am not joining the Catholic Church and I am not raising my children Catholic. What matters to me is serving Jesus Christ, honor Him in my marriage. He has forgiven me for my past and remembers it no more. That is what matters. So how can I maybe blend both my passion and love for my Christian beliefs and my mother-in-laws Catholic Church beliefs into our wedding day? Anybody???
